Health Ministry, RAM medivac Dadanawa woman, child

– following collapse of their house
THE Ministry of Health Wednesday collaborated with Remote Area Medical (RAM) Inc. Guyana to medivac Joy Perry, 28, and her son, Claver Perry, 3, of Dadanawa village, Region 9, who were injured when the walls of their house collapsed. Perry’s husband, who was also injured, succumbed to his injuries.

Minister in the Ministry of Health, Dr Bheri Ramsaran, and Head of RAM in Guyana, Terrence Trapnell, told the Government Information Agency of the incident. Trapnell piloted the mother and her son to Ogle Wednesday night. He said they had hung hammocks in the house and a wall collapsed on them injuring the three persons.
Minister Ramsaran said that even with the flood situation being addressed, the Regional Health Officer Dr Khamraj Kanhai was able to fly to Dadanawa with Trapnell and extract the patients. Dr Ramsaran said that the light aircraft operated by Trapnell had to be repaired before it could be used. The repairs were done under torch light.
Dr Ramsaran commended Trapnell, a foreigner who came to the Rupununi for several years, for his humanitarian work.
Perry and her son are at the Georgetown Public Hospital where they are receiving medical attention.

The Ministry of Health works with non-governmental and humanitarian organizations, including RAM, to airlift critically ill persons from predominantly hinterland and Amerindian communities, to Georgetown for specialized attention at the GPH. (GINA)
