Flood water receding from Kwakwani

– Rockstone now affected
AS flood water continues to recede from the Kwakwani area in Region 10, sections of Rockstone also in the region, are currently affected.
Assistant Regional Executive Officer of Region 10, Devon Bremner, told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that the flood waters continue to recede from the Kwakwani area with about 18 inches reduction noted at the waterfront and 12 inches at the Lamp Island area.

There is no health crisis aside from a few reports of diarrhoea and skin rash, Bremner said, and these were treated by medical personnel in the area.
The residents are being provided with clean water and the boat service for the school children and school teachers is still active. The region had provided a boat that collects the students and teachers from their homes and takes them to higher ground where they access vehicles to their respective schools.
The region is also continuing its weekly medical outreaches to residents, Bremner said.
In an interview with Region 10, Regional Executive Officer, Henry Rodney, GINA has learnt that the entire river front area of Rockstone is under water.
Buildings such as the Rockstone Tourism Board are affected and the roads to access these buildings are also covered with water.
A team of health officers under the direction of medex Alicia Grant yesterday visited the area and informed residents about water sanitisation and distributed chlorine tablets.
The region is maintaining a full-time community health team to monitor the residents in Rockstone.(GINA)
