THE AFC should not join with the PNCR in an alliance

THERE has been much talk of recent of the Joint Opposition Political Parties (JOPP) and the expectancy that this grouping will make headway in the upcoming elections. This, I believe, Guyanese should know is all talk, and is just something to gain the attention of the voting public.
I think that Guyanese should know that if this is to happen, it is not going to be an alliance in the real sense since the PNCR is the only party that has constituents while the others are just parties on paper.
They just contest the elections and then disappear and have no following. A coalition speaks of a coming together of forces to build strength but what strength will this build?

I read in the Stabroek News Monday edition that former PNC Finance Minister Carl Greenidge said that the PNCR should view the formation of the Joint Opposition Political Parties alliance as an initial step and must now take the lead in forging a bigger alliance inclusive of the AFC that is committed to unseating the PPP/C government at the upcoming elections.
Greenidge is aware of the fact that the PNCR is the only party that has a little portion of the voters and so if the AFC comes in it is the only other party that could help the PNCR to maintain a decent rating. However, unity of these parties will not result in a win at the end of the day, but will give the PNCR a decent markup that it can maintain itself as the leading opposition.
I think that if the AFC wants to be counted as a party then it shouldn’t join with the PNCR but should try to maintain its image. Coming from the PNCR, Trotman should know that the PNCR cannot be trusted. They have a history of reneging on their word.
Furthermore, I think that Greenidge should be ashamed to talk to the Guyanese people of the record of the PNCR. He claims that the PNCR doesn’t have anything to apologise for and that shows the arrogance of the party that was guilty  of neglect during its years in office.
