Sattaur’s unbeaten ton leads ECD to victory
SKIPPER Brian Sattaur produced a massive unbeaten ton, which led to the East Coast Demerara team’s demolition of East Bank Demerara by 175 runs in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Demerara Inter-Sub Association Under-19 tournament at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence yesterday. ECD bounced back with a terrific performance after being humbled by West Bank Demerara (WBD) on Monday at the Police Sports Complex (PSC) ground.
East Bank won the toss and gave the eventual victors the chance to bat first and watched as they amassed 275 for 3 in their 48 overs, before they were bowled out for 100 in 43.1 overs in the match which got under way 30 minutes late, due to a scrambled fixture which led to three teams showing up at the venue, thus the reduction in overs.
Sattaur led the way at the top of the order with his aggressive 156 which he laced with 19 fours and a six after facing just 139 balls and was supported by Kamesh Yadram who made an unbeaten 54 as the two added 121 for the fourth wicket.
Yadram struck two fours from the 68 balls he faced, while Steve Ramdass supported with 31, as opener Darrel Fredericks and Arif Habib were removed for four and 12 respectively.
Right-arm pacer, John Paton was the pick of the bowlers for the East Bank side removing Fredericks and Habib while his teammate Levon Beckles claimed the wicket of Ramdass.
In EBD’s reply, they struggled right through their innings losing their first five wickets for 40 runs with none of the top order batsmen making double figures.
Jadesh Jaigobin who made an unbeaten 35, was the only batsman to put up any resistance to the ECD attack which was led by leg-spinner Yadram who bagged three wickets, while Premchan Sookdeo and Poorendra Jaigobin picked up two wickets each.
The tournament will continue today with WBD looking to continue their impressive showing when they face defending champions Georgetown at the same venue.
