THE Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has regretted the inconvenience met by taxpayers visiting the Licence Revenue Office (LRO) in Smyth Street, Georgetown, last May 18. In a press release, it said the system for issuing licences suffered technical difficulties, hindering the smooth sale for motor vehicles and disrupted other services offered by LRO.
The GRA said it wishes to remind taxpayers that, in addition to the sale there, motor vehicle licences are also in Georgetown at the following locations:
*Tax Operations and Services Building, Albert and Charlotte Streets;
*The General Post Office, Robb Street and
*Customs House on Main Street.
The release said, in the Regions, motor vehicle licences can be purchased at GRA regional offices in Lethem, Rupununi; Corriverton and New Amsterdam in Berbice; Linden, Upper Demerara River; Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast; Parika, East Bank Essequibo and Bartica, Essequibo River.
Persons are encouraged to make use of the additional sale locations.
Meanwhile, a three month grace period, until June 1, is allowed for procuring licences and, during that time, no checks would be made by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) for renewed licences.
But vehicle owners who fail to purchase their licences or renew them on or before June 1 will be required to pay a ten percent administrative penalty on the cost.
In addition, persons without their motor vehicle licences after the grace period may be subject to a fine by the GPF, the GRA said.
