…. after trying to kill partner
A 57-year-old man, faced with the challenges of having a much younger wife, took his life after attempting to slay his partner of 17 years, at their home at Timmers Dam, Mount Sinai, New Amsterdam, Berbice. Neville Samaroo was yesterday morning, pronounced dead at the New Amsterdam Hospital, after sleuths removed his body hanging from a rafter in the couple’s bedroom.
His wife, Shameeza Bacchus, was slashed along her right chin as Samaroo tried to kill her.

Bacchus, 35, related to this newspaper that persons would tell her husband stories about her infidelity with other men and he would become physically abusive.
According to her, several reports were made at Central Police Station, the last being a few weeks ago, when the deceased received a warning from a police officer.
The mother of two confessed that attempts were made by ranks to charge her husband, but she would often times beg for him, mainly because their twelve year old son, Aubrey, would tell her, ‘nah lock up daddy’.
Recounting the events which led to his death, Bacchus said she was in the kitchen of their three bedroom house putting finishing touches on a birthday cake for their daughter, Lindsley.
‘It’s her sixth birthday and he promised to take them [referring to both children]out later in the afternoon. He left for work at the Aqua Spring Water Filling outlet, at Nicolay Street, at 07:00hrs, he returned at 08:00hrs came inside the house, asking me what happen.’
Next door neighbour, Solo, related seeing his friend enter his yard and sit on his front stairs sharpening his cutlass.
Solo said Samaroo would repeatedly tell him, ‘Me dun fa. Me nah got nothing to live fa. Me go bruk up everything and hang me self’.
From his stairs, ‘Solo’ saw Samaroo enter the house and minutes later heard the screams of Aubrey and Lindsley, the couple’s children.
The distraught woman said, ‘After he ask me wha happen, he suddenly grabbled the kitchen knife, but, I was on the alert. As he attempted to slash my neck, I turned, and got it on my chin. I then ran, but he blocked me by the front door.

Bacchus managed to get out of the house and Samaroo locked himself in and there followed the sounds of furniture being smashed.
About an hour later detectives broke into the building and found Samaroo hanging in the bedroom.
