Remanded on narcotics possession charge

TROY RAMDEEN, 31, who was allegedly found with 139 grammes of cannabis, was remanded to prison yesterday, by Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Wales Court.
The accused man of Side Line Dam, Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on May 17, he had in his possession, narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the facts of the charge, on the day in question, at about 16:30 hrs, a police rank, acting upon information, went to the Wales Public Road and stopped the motor car when the defendant was seen throwing a black, bulky plastic bag out of the vehicle’s window.
He was subsequently arrested and the plastic bag was retrieved and was opened in the presence of the accused. The bag contained a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems, suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The substance was weighed and amounted to 135 grammes. He was placed in custody and later charged.
The prosecution objected to bail, highlighting the seriousness of the offence.
Ramdeen will appear again in court on June 13.
