I have lots of friends working at Pizza Hut and KFC outlets and the way these persons are treated by management is second to slavery. Workers are not allowed to use the company’s phone to make any call to family members or friends and at the same time are not allowed to use their personal cell phones to place and receive calls when on shift. How can one work eight hours a day and not use their mobile phone during that period?
The other thing is that I work for $45, 500 a month and only pay a total of $1,600 in taxes to GRA and NIS contributions, while my friends at PIZZA HUT and KFC pay just under $5,000 in tax a week and working for less than $45,500 a month. This company also needs to ensure that their managers have a better approach to customers and not try to reprimand staff members in the presence of customers as was the case lately. I visit other fast food restaurants and the atmosphere is nothing compared to what you experience at these stores managed by DIDCO.
In closing I want to remind this company that recently a call centre right here in Guyana had to close its operations because of similar treatment meted out to workers who all decided not to worry about the money and walked off the job. This caused the company to lose millions and was faced with a law suit for not keeping its end of the bargain to the foreign companies for which it was receiving calls.
