THE Central Islamic Organization of Guyana (CIOG) has condemned the unwarranted and defamatory attack on Bishop Juan Edghill by Anthony Vieira which was aired on CNS channel 6 on the 4th May, 2011. “We view the allegation of him being involved in a serious criminal offence and being penalized without any evidence being provided to be an unjustified attack on his character and an affront to the principles of decency and religious freedom,” said a brief statement signed by CIOG’s President Mr. Fazeel M. Ferouz.
Bishop Edghill has since denied the allegations.
“We trust that there will not be a recurrence and that Mr. Vieira and Channel 6 will take appropriate remedial steps,” Mr. Ferouz urged.
