Truck driver in Sunday fatal accident granted bail

THE driver whose truck was involved in an accident that claimed the life of a taxi driver on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, last Sunday, appeared in court yesterday.
Charles Jagan, charged, indictably, with causing the death of Quincy Kellman, was placed on $300,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Particulars of the offence said the accused, on May 8, drove motor lorry GJJ 4896 in a manner dangerous to the public and caused the death of Kellman.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said Jagan (no address given) was proceeding east along the southern carriageway of Mandela Avenue when he overtook another vehicle and lost control of his, which collided with HB 2983 that was being driven by Kellman.
The prosecutor had objected to bail for Jagan, on the grounds that a life was lost due to the carelessness of the accused and the prevalence of the offence.
But the objection was overruled and the case postponed to May 27.
