Nuisance fined, bonded for abusing Cheddi Jagan (Jnr)

ALLAN Roach (no address given) was fined $25,000 with the alternative of two weeks imprisonment yesterday, for using abusive language to Cheddi Jagan (Jnr).
The defendant was also put on a one year bond to keep the peace and warned that any breach of it would result in him being imprisoned for six months.
That was after Roach pleaded guilty to the offence, one of two with which he was charged, before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
He pleaded not guilty to threatening the virtual complainant, also on April 9, but the latter said he did not wish to testify in that case as it would be a waste of the court’s time.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said Roach was in the habit of abusing Jagan and would, usually, block the entrance to the man’s premises.
The prosecutor said the virtual complaint requested the defendant to remove himself from his pathway and Roach became annoyed and brandished a knife at Jagan, who, being fearful, reported the threat to the police.
The virtual complainant had requested a restraining order against the defendant, stating that he is a nuisance but the magistrate bonded Roach instead.
