Thunderous applause greets PPP/C’s presidential candidate in New York

…as President Jagdeo assures he will make ‘an excellent president’
At a massive event held at Club Tobago on April 29, 2011, the Association of Concerned Guyanese –USA presented PPP/C presidential candidate Donald Ramotar to an audience of over 600 despite the efforts by some paid detractors of the PNCR and AFC to disrupt the event.
In giving his full support to the presidential candidate, and to  thunderous applause, President Jagdeo declared that Donald Ramotar will make an excellent President
because he is not bigoted, and like Cheddi Jagan, he is guided by the philosophy to struggle for the rights of the people and to ensure that Guyana continues to be developed for all of our people.
“He has what it takes to be in charge of the future of Guyana “.
Giving his perspective of the PNCR’s candidate, David Granger, President Jagdeo described him as a fossil from an era that destroyed our country and took away our people’s rights. As Burnham’s liaison to the army, Granger destroyed the professionalism of the military and forced them to pay allegiance to the PNC rather than to the country.
“More of Granger’s dark past will become more apparent to the electorate as the election season warms up.”
Club Tobago erupted as the candidate of the PPP approached the podium. Donald Ramotar committed himself to continuing the progress that the PPP has made over the last 19 years in government. He pledged to continue the struggle of the party for the uplift of all Guyanese. Ramotar shared his confidence with the well- wishers in attendance that his party will again bring the people of Guyana together for yet another victory of the PPP. In analyzing the state of the economy at the time his party took office in 1992, and referring to international reports, Ramotar reminded the jam-packed hall that Guyana was declared the poorest of the poor and hope for a better future was non-existent.

Today, the country’s GDP is growing at a rate of 3 to 5 % annually, at a time when economies around the world are collapsing and there is no hope of a better future.
Chairman of the Association of Concerned Guyanese—USA, Dr. Raj Singh, moderated the event. Among those in attendance were New York City Council members Leroy Comrie and Ruben Wills, Minister of Tourism Maniram Prashad, and Guyana’s Consul General Brentnol Evans.
