GAWU: May the Easter message not be lost in all the jollification

MOST RELIGIOUS observances are characterized by celebration, mixed with reflection these days.
The original bases of these commemorations have serious spiritual, sometimes earth-shaking implications for mankind’s behaviour as a result of these events. Religion has always released powerful effects on mankind.

Humans search for, and seem to need, spiritual bases and understanding to survive, amidst material needs and challenges.
The Christian story and belief in the crucifixion and resurrection is one such religious event that affects a large proportion of mankind, whereby prophesied, predicted sacrifice would be made for Man’s sinful ways and, hopefully, his redemption.
A significant segment of Guyanese adhere to these beliefs, and thus Guyanese Christians will both reflect and celebrate the Death and Rising of their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU), whose membership boasts a sizeable amount of Christians, is always pleased to be associated with the observance of Easter.
Appreciating that the Holy Week culminates 40 days of cleansing, introspection and sacrifice, GAWU salutes those devout Christians, whose faith at this time was tested and proven.
May their own 40-day discipline and their Saviour’s Redemptive Sacrifice inspire lifelong behaviours of extending mutual respect and love to others – Christian and non-Christian alike.
Amidst the celebratory kite-flying, Easter bonnets and Eggs and Cross-Buns, may the Easter Message not be lost or distracted by the plethora of popular entertainment now staged in Easter’s name. Let the Sacrifice and its Promise inform all that Christians do during this Holy Week-end.
GAWU’s wishes one and all a Happy Guyanese Easter!
