On $25,000 bail for unlawful assault

Dexter McCullen, a vendor of Norton Street, Lodge, yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on charges of unlawful assault and using threatening language. It was alleged that on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, McCullen unlawfully assaulted and used threatening language to Paula Garraway.
Police Sergeant Jennies Booker, prosecuting, said the two parties had an intimate and abusive relationship for over four years.
She said the couple spent some time in Suriname together, and on the day in question, both Dexter McCullen and Paula Garraway had a misunderstanding when she visited a relative at her home.
He then slapped her and told her that he would kill her, using abusive language.
He was subsequently arrested and charged by the police.
He was placed $25,000 bail and a bond to keep the peace. The matter was transferred to Court 10 for report and fixture.
