A classic case of ‘when the shoe is on the other foot’…

McCoy clarifies recent controversial comments about the 10,000 laptops
PRESS and Publicity Officer at the Office of the President, Mr. Kwame McCoy, has indicated that recent comments he made to the media, about the 10,000 laptops and its ‘location’, was “just a classic case of what Kaieteur News does on a daily basis”.
In a brief statement to the media on Tuesday, and which was carried in the Chronicle, McCoy spoke about the purchase of 10,000 laptops which he said are currently housed at addresses in Tucville, Georgetown and Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara. The addresses are those of Kaieteur News’ Editor Mr. Adam Harris and Publisher Mr. Glenn Lall.

McCoy’s comments were in response to a Page One article in the Kaieteur News on the One Laptop Per Family (OLPF) project, published on Tuesday this week.

But in a comment to the Chronicle yesterday, McCoy made it clear that it was the Kaieteur News that first reported that the laptops have already been procured for distribution, and he merely responded by suggesting that, if such was the case, then the laptops were stored at the homes of the Editor and Publisher of that newspaper.

“This is just a classic case of what Kaieteur News does on a daily basis. It was the Kaieteur News that said the laptops have already been procured for distribution and that the bidding process was just a mere sham,” McCoy said yesterday.

“And it was against this background that I suggested that the laptops they (the Kaieteur News) were referring to, were stored at these two addresses which belonged to Adam Harris and Glenn Lall, respectively,” he said.

“Under all circumstances, the integrity of the procurement process that the Government is now engaged in remains intact,” McCoy said, adding that “neither the Kaieteur News, nor its opposition agents, can detract or derail this process as they are obviously and blatantly attempting to do”.
