Couple fined for abusing one another, facing trials

A COMMON-LAW couple appeared in court yesterday on charges of abusing and assaulting one another.
Dennis Caldena and Ashley Agar (no addresses given) made their appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Caldena pleaded guilty to having, on April 9, made use of abusive language to Agar but denied unlawfully and maliciously wounding her to cause actual bodily harm.
Agar pleaded not guilty to assaulting Caldena but guilty to abusing him.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the defendants shared a relationship but had an argument and they both made use of abusive language and threw bottles at each other.
The prosecutor said Agar suffered injuries to her hands and face.
Each defendant was fined $10,000 with the alternative of two weeks imprisonment for the abuse. However, on the wounding charge, Caldena was ordered to post $30,000 bail and Agar was granted pre-trial freedom on a $10,000 bond with respect to the assault charge.
