ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) – Prolific opener Barbados opener Kraigg Brathwaite has been named to lead West Indies Under-19s on their tour of United Arab Emirates against Australia Under-19s starting next weekend. The 18-year-old right-hander has already represented West Indies A and was called up to the West Indies squad during the bitter players strike in 2009. He did not play.
Brathwaite was again in excellent form during the just concluded Regional First Class Championship, hitting 473 runs at an average of 43, to be Barbados’ leading batsman.
Last year, he was one of the leading batsmen at the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand where he compiled 335 runs to be second in the aggregates.
Brathwaite will be joined by Guyana first class players fast bowler Ronsford Beaton and leg-spinner Amir Khan.
Former Barbados fast bowler Roddy Estwick has been named head coach while West Indies selector Courtney Browne will serve as manager.
West Indies will play three 50-overs matches and one three-day match starting next Sunday.
SQUAD – Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Anthony Alleyne, Ronsford Beaton, John Campbell, Brian Christmas, Kwame Crosse, Derone Davis, Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Jerome Jones, Keiron Joseph, Steven Katwaroo, Amir Khan, Kyle Mayers, Donovan Nelson, Akeem Saunders.
