Joint position amicably taken by GFF, GFA and UDFA

… likely postponement of GFF’s AGM
AFTER two hours of detailed deliberations among representatives of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Georgetown Football Association (GFA) and the Upper-Demerara
Football Association (UDFA) a joint position was agreed with the hope of restoring the constitutional rights of Guyana’s two most vibrant FAs. The joint statement was relayed to Chronicle Sport minutes after the conclusion of the private meeting held at the Pegasus Hotel between 13:00 h and 15:00 h.yesterday. Honorary Secretary of the GFA, Christopher Matthias, who delivered the statement via  telephone informed that president Colin Klass was the sole representative of the GFF likewise Dr Joseph Haynes for the UDFA while the GFA was represented by president, Lt Commander Vernon Burnett and himself.
The meeting which was brokered by Dr Haynes agreed that “once each of the Sub-Associations presents to the GFF, Minutes of the last AGM and the list of elected executives, a current bank account number as well as a bank statement, the Audited Financial Report for 2010, the programme for 2011 and a list of registered clubs and players then the Executive Committee of the GFF will invoke Article 13 of the GFF’s Constitution and restore full Constitutional rights to the UDFA and GFA. This must, however, be done before the Congress which will be held on a date to be decided on soon”.
Matthias added that there may be an extraordinary Congress to decide on the date for the AGM and that the GFA is expected to present all the mandated requirements by next Tuesday to the GFF.
The GFA Secretary stated that he was very hopeful of matters being resolved amicably since yesterday’s meeting was conducted in like manner.
The GFF’s AGM is set for Sunday, April 16, at the Ocean View International Hotel, but both the GFA and the UDFA are still to be given voting rights and with a ray of hope after yesterday’s private meeting, a likely new date for the AGM could be forthcoming.
The bold step, taken by the two Sub-Associations to demand their rights in meaningfully contributing to the development of Guyana’s football, could see Klass being challenged for the top position.
The GFF recently admitted that a breach in the Constitution was made with regard to the notification of the AGM, which will include the elections for the positions of president, second vice- president and organising secretary.
It is a general feeling among the dear lovers of the sport that it is time for a change in leadership after over two decades of stagnation.
