MIX-Up team mixed up their opponents before carting off the Gittens and Next Level-organised, seventh countrywide dominoes competition at the National Gymnasium on March 26 and 27.
They outplayed several dozen teams on their way to the title and top prize of $300 000 while ‘Mo Fire’ finished second and received $200 000, Specialist Domino team placed third and won $100 000. Strikers were the final top team who took the fourth position and claimed the $50 000 prize.
Mix-Up captain Gilbert Mendonca was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament while Next Level Domino Team won the Most Disciplined Team award and Arsenal Domino team won the First Double Love.
Tournament organiser Lyall Gittens, who was able to bring teams from as far as Essequibo and Linden, stated that the event was a success thanks to the sponsors who came on board to ensure the smooth running.
Sponsors included Banks DIH through their R1 Vodka brand, Ansa McAl through their Stag Lager Beer brand, Grace Kennedy’s Bill Express, Sterling Products, L. Kanhai, Trophy Stall, Nigel’s Supermarket, Mambo Bar, London Based Carwash and TNT Domino Club.
