Horticultural show, sale concluded at Umana Yana

PLANT lovers were, last Saturday, given the opportunity to display their creations and purchase some exotic ones at the annual Horticultural Show and Sale. The event was staged at the Umana Yana, in Kingston, Georgetown, with the aim of promoting flower gardening.

Treasurer of the Horticultural Society of Guyana, Ms. Yolanda Vasconcellos said there were 200 participants in the competitive category and some 15 registered booths.
She said the competitors put on a large ground display and Dawn Sukdeo won the first prize; Luise Joesph the second and the Botanical Gardens the third.
Vasconcellos said the judging was based on the health and bloom of what was displayed and the creativity and sensibility of it.
She announced that various planting demonstrations and tips were given to persons who attended the two-day activity.
The first such show was held in 1982 and became an annual event, subsequently. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
