Toy gun robber remanded

SEVENTEEN-year-old Akeem Forte, who was in police custody up to yesterday pending charges, was remanded when he appeared before Magistrate Nyasha Williams- Hatmin charged with robbery under arms.
He was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge, particulars of which stated that about 12:30hrs on March 22, he went to the 65 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop shop owned by Rajpattie Harry, 65, and bought $20 worth of mints.

After receiving the sweets, it is alleged that he pulled a shiny handgun from his waist and pointed it at the woman’s face, demanding cash.
After the sexagenarian refused the demand; he struck her on the head and escaped with $60,000.
He was apprehended by police approximately 100 feet away and some of the cash was recovered. Police discovered that the weapon he used was a toy gun.
The matter will be called again on April 17.
