15-year-old held after toy gun robbery

A FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD lad is in custody at Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, West Coast Demerara, pending investigations into a robbery in which a toy gun was used. A police source said, about 12:30 hrs on March 22, the suspect went to the Lot 65 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop shop owned by Rajpattie Harry, 65 and bought $20 worth of mints.
After receiving the confectionary, it is alleged that he pulled a shiny handgun from his waist and pointed it at the woman’s face, demanding cash.
The sexagenarian refused the demand and was struck in the head before the robber escaped with $60,000.
But police, acting immediately upon receiving the report, apprehended the suspect approximately 100 feet away and recovered some of the money after it was revealed that the weapon was a toy.
