MAGISTRATE Adela Nagamootoo yesterday remanded Raymond La Fleur to prison, until April 11, after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawfully introducing a narcotic into the New Amsterdam Penitentiary, in Berbice. Police Corporal Sherlock King, prosecuting, at New Amsterdam Court, said, last February 14, the defendant was seen throwing a parcel over the wall of the jail at Penitentiary Walk, New Amsterdam.
The prosecutor said, earlier, La Fleur was seen dismounting his motorcycle in front of the visitors’ shed, conversing with another person who arrived beside him on a bicycle, then bending and removing the package from his boots.
His action was reported to an officer on duty, who found a brown, taped parcel containing four packets of ‘Dunhill’ cigarettes and another with 166 grammes of leaves, seeds and stems of the cannabis (marijuana) plant.
