THE reputed husband of 20-year-old Farida Ramdeen called ‘Susie’, of Vreed-en-Hoop Squatting Area, West Coast Demerara, was on Tuesday charged with her murder. Kevin Verwey (no address given) appeared in court after her body was fished out of Houston Estate Backdam canal, East Bank Demerara, on Sunday.
The indictable charge, read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, said he murdered Ramdeen between March 4 and 6, at Houston.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said, on March 4, the accused and the victim left their home around 20:00 hrs in a taxi, to pay a visit in Albouystown, Georgetown.
The prosecutor said the accused stopped the car and, after Ramdeen exited at his request, he took her to a dam in Houston where he killed her, then contacted his relatives and informed them of the killing.
The prosecutor said the accused took the police to where he dumped the corpse and confessed to the crime.
On his application for time to have the investigations completed, the magistrate told the prosecutor he has six weeks and remanded the accused to prison until April 15.
