…grieving wife Wenola Craig says she is disappointed with outcome
MAGISTRATE Ann Mc Lennan at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court, Linden, on Tuesday, set free 53-year-old minibus driver Terry Da Silva on charges instituted against him in July 26, 2009, for causing the death of Bosai security guard Wilton Craig on the Winifred Gaskin Highway. Reports at the time suggested that Da Silva was under the influence of alcohol.
When the accident occurred in 2009, the guard died after he was struck down by a Route # 43 minibus along the Winifred Gaskin Road in the vicinity of Dele’s Night Sport in One Mile, Wismar, Linden, while on his way to work.
Wilton Craig was on his bicycle after leaving home shortly after 05:00hrs when tragedy struck.
Da Silva said he had left the Library Three Disco in Mackenzie where he and his wife were earlier Saturday night.
But DaSilva at the scene of the accident said: “I didn’t find my wife up to 01:30 hrs and after I decided to go home,” at 280 Wisrock Housing Scheme.
The 53 year old Da Silva was later given a breadthaliser test by the police at the scene of the accident and later taken to the Mackenzie Police Station for further questioning.
Da Silva also stated at the scene he was not sure what was going on, but informed this newspaper that he was in the “right lane” when he tried avoiding coming into contact with the guard, who he said was pulling over to his lane.
Craig lived with his wife Wenola and their three children Ryan, Tonia and Denzil, at Lot 51 One Mile Wismar, Linden. He had started working as a security guard at BOSAI some six months before the fatal accident
