Texila American University opens Guyana branch at CLC

TEXILA American University (TAU) opened a branch of its medical school last Saturday, at Critchlow Labour College (CLC), in Woolford Avenue, Georgetown.

The United States (U.S.) headquartered institution is offering health science programmes with a high degree of professionalism.

Texila, which has several other branches worldwide, will use both local and foreign lecturers, from countries such as India and The Philippines, all qualified with Master’s Degrees.

It has a rigorous curriculum, structured after the best U.S. medical schools, for full-time classes towards qualifications as MD (Doctor of Medicine), BDS/DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery), BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) and associated disciplines, having received provisional registration with the National Accreditation Council of Guyana.

TAU International Operations Manager, Mr. Ashok Kumar told the Guyana Chronicle that they would cater for at least 100 students here, annually, with three semesters in batches of 40 each.

He said the infrastructural work at the location would include classrooms, a library and laboratories, while, among the in-campus facilities are a career centre, counselling, computer and security services, cafeteria and a bookstore.

The admission criteria vary and applications are also acceptable online and classes would commence as soon as that process is completed, Kumar said.
