Jailed for three years
TWENTY-two year old  Joel Jones of Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast, Demerara, who pleaded guilty to having carnal knowledge with a seven-year-old girl  in 2005, was  jailed for three  years on Monday afternoon by Justice Winston Patterson.
Earlier the accused had pleaded not guilty and was being tried by a mixed jury, who by their questions from Prosecution witnesses,  gave the impression that  they had been overcome by reasonable doubt in favour of the accused.
Added to this, the girl, while stating that the accused had sex with her, did not say anything about penetration and had told her mother that the accused struck her on the head with a hammer which resulted in a blooded sheet.
Two doctors had given evidence; one said that the injuries around the vagina, which  gave the  impression that there was penetration, could have been be self- inflicted or caused by a fall.
The other doctor said that the mother of the victim  did  not tell him anything about rape but merely told him that the accused had hit the  girl with a hammer. He said he saw no sign of injury.
