Fined driver involved in road fatality remanded

MONTY Blake, 52, of Richmond Village, was remanded to prison on Tuesday, when he appeared before Magistrate Burgetta Daly, at Anna Regina Court, charged with  causing the death of Manclik Matthews by dangerous driving. The indictable charge said Blake drove his motor vehicle in a dangerous manner and killed the 16-year-old secondary school student while the latter was cycling on La Belle Alliance Public Road, also on Essequibo Coast, around 01:00 h on February 24.
The victim and two of his friends were returning home after witnessing Mashramani celebrations at Anna Regina.
Police also slapped Blake with charges of breach of insurance and being an unlicensed driver and he was fined $15,000 and $25,000, respectively, for those offences.
Blake will make another Court appearance on the other charge next March 15.
