ON researching information for a special Republic Day supplement, Chronicle’s editorial team happened upon an article entitled, ‘The Shape of Guyana’ credited to the above source. So, in a manner dictated by ethical journalism, where a media house credits the source, Chronicle credited the above source as indicated in Google.
However, on both Stabroek News’ website and through a personal letter from Editor-in-Chief of Stabroek News, Mr. Anand Persaud to Editor-in-Chief of Chronicle, Mr. Mark Ramotar, the former claims that the feature was first published in three parts in the Stabroek News of 20th November, and 4th and 11th October 1998.
This is not recorded in the feature that we found in Google, because Chronicle has an ethical stance regarding crediting sources for information. However, the only source listed is as above; so currently the question is based on a chicken and egg situation:  Which came first, the Guyana News and Information feature, which was first copyrighted in 1995, or the Stabroek News feature, which was published in late 1998?  If it is the latter, then Chronicle willingly apologizes, but why did not Stabroek News in turn credit its source?
