Former Jamaica army, police chief calls on Rohee

FORMER Chief-of-Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force and former Commissioner of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee yesterday morning.
At the office of the latter, in Brickdam, Georgetown, the visitor said he was delighted to be in Guyana at the invitation of the Rotary Club of Georgetown to address its banquet guests last night.

Lewin told reporters that he and Rohee discussed matters of mutual interest related to security arrangements and he was updated on developments in Guyana.
He said he and the minister shared a number of thoughts, collectively, including on drug trafficking, a common challenge faced in the region, but it was not an in-depth discussion, during which they talked about a wide range of issues.
Rohee said the call was very useful and engaging with regard to the common interest in security and future prospects for law enforcement in the region.
He added that Guyana and Jamaica have had very active cooperation on CARICOM matters and some experiences with current issues.
The minister said he and Lewin had general discussions on the security situation in the region and the exchange was good.
Lewin, on Thursday, also called on Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Chief-of-Staff, Commodore Gary Best at GDF Headquarters, Base Camp Ayanganna, also in the city.
Lewin was due to deliver a lecture titled ‘Understanding Drugs, Crime and the threats to Caribbean Society’ last night in the Savannah Suite of the Pegasus Hotel, as part of the annual celebrations of the Rotary Club of Georgetown.
