Government seeks ICT trainers for ‘One Laptop’ programme

GOVERNMENT IS recruiting Information Communication Technology (ICT) trainers for its One Laptop Per Family (OLPF) programme, and is inviting community-based organisations to apply to be designated as ICT hubs for the project. The OLPF is a programme that aims to ensure that families get the resources and training in basic computer skills essential for job-preparedness in a modern economy.
By pairing earned laptops, ICT trainers and ICT infrastructure, the OLPF is designed as an affordable, common sense approach to training and graduating family members for the information technology age and economy.
Advertisements will be in the media from this weekend, inviting applications from persons qualified to be ICT trainers. OLPF training include classroom training in basic ICT skills, training in the application of ICT skills to specific jobs, and personalised training to ensure that every individual is able to benefit from the project.
Qualified persons will be offered no-cost training through a specialised programme to prepare them as certified ICT trainers to lead the OLPF initiative.
OLPF will work to place ICT trainers in regions near their homes and all trainers joining the OLPF team will be provided with an OLPF netbook computer. (See advertisements for more details).
Accredited organisations which can be ICT hubs will partner with the government in the roll-out of the project which will enable families to gain ICT skills and knowledge for their prosperity, community and national development.
ICT hubs can be community-based organisations working with differently-abled or disadvantaged people, youth, children and women.
Public secondary schools and public tertiary institutions or other non-governmental organisations can also apply to be ICT hubs.
Organisations which meet the requirements for orientation and implementation of the project will be shortlisted by a review panel.
Online applications can be sent to www.olpf.gov.gy or forms can be uplifted at Regional or Neighbourhood Democratic Councils or from the Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown.
Those seeking more information can contact the Office of the President on telephone 231-8278 or email olpf@op.gov.gy.
