A bomb scare at the Vreed-En-Hoop Community High School, West Coast Demerara, yesterday, left the recreational ground and classrooms abandoned.
Upon arrival at the school, half an hour after the scare was announced, the Guyana Chronicle was welcomed by a group of agitated teachers sitting in the sun, lamenting the loss of valuable working hours, and a squad of police officers from the Vreed-En- Hoop Police Station taking statements. The anonymous informer told this newspaper that around 09:30h a telephone call was received at the school saying that an explosive device was on the premises.
The police were summoned and they arrived promptly. The building was evacuated and soon a fire-fighting unit and crew arrived.
The building was combed by officials, but they found nothing.
Meanwhile, on the road, the Chronicle stumbled upon a group of the students on their way home, upset at the break in their schedule.
About two weeks ago, classes at the Patentia Primary School, West Bank Demerara, were suspended following another bomb scare.
Again, a search by the authorities found nothing.
