Ten Doeschate’s all-round show seals Kenya’s fate

NETHERLANDS all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate starred in his team’s nail-biting two-wicket win over Kenya in their second and final warm-up game before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Batting first Kenya posted 263 for five in their 50 overs. In their reply, Netherlands chased down the target in the final over with five balls to spare.
Earlier, Kenya opener Seren Waters (126: 150b, 12×4) carried his bat through the innings. Kenya lost early wickets, but Waters held the innings together. He shared a crucial 129-run stand for the fifth wicket with Rakep Patel 64 (7×4) to lead Kenya to a challenging target.
For Netherlands ten Doeschate picked up 2 for 47.
Netherlands started in a brisk fashion, but quickly slipped from 102 for 2 to 130 for 7. It was then the turn of ten Doeschate to show his worth with the bat as he rallied the lower order well.
He shared a crucial 82-run stand with wicketkeeper Atse Buurman to bring Netherlands back into the contest. In the end ten Doeschate (98: 92b, 3×4, 4×6) remained unbeaten as Netherlands won a thrilling encounter. For Kenya, veteran Steve Tikolo starred with the ball picking up 4-39.
