THE preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against Jarvis Small called Barry and Bibi Shareema Gopaul was adjourned yesterday, without any evidence being taken. Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry announced the adjournment, to February 17, after apologising to the defence and prosecution.
Senior Counsel, Mr. Bernard De Santos and other-attorney-at-law, Mr. Vic Puran, for the accused and the Special Prosecutor, Ms. Prithima Kissoon, for the State, were all present, together with four witnesses.
The specific reason adjourning the proceedings was not given but the case, originally fixed for the afternoon session, was called during the morning.
Yesterday was the seventh court appearance since the duo was charged for the unlawful killing of Neesa Gopaul. The victim’s body was found in Madewini Creek, near Emerald Tower Resort along Soesdyke/Linden Highway and it is alleged that she was killed between September 24 and October 2, 2010.
