Three of five murder accused committed for trial

At Vreed-en-Hoop Court…
FIVE murder accused were before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin, at the Vreed-en-Hoop Court, West Coast Demerara, on Wednesday.
Three of the accosed, members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard Sherwyn Harte, Devon Gordon and Delon Greenidge were commited to stand jury trial for the unlawful killing of gold dealer Dweive Kant Ramdass on August 20, 2009.
The victim was killed during a multi-million dollar robbery at Bartica, along the Essequibo River.
Before the committal, the magistrate overruled a no-case submission by defence counsel Pariag, for Gordon, who had submitted that the confession statements tendered as evidence were not given voluntarily.
Special Prosecutor Khemraj Ramjattan had presented 14 witnesses who had testified at the preliminary inquiry (PI).
Of the other two in the dock, 18-year-old Eddie Williams is charged with murdering Jermaine Jones on November 30, 2010 at Ruimzeight.
Jones was fatally stabbed during an argument over a cellular phone and was pronounced dead on arrival at Leonora Cottage Hospital, also on West Coast Demerara.
Williams, too, was remanded to prison until April 14 when the preliminary inquiry (PI) into his charge will commence.
Thirty-nine-year-old Rudolph London, of Lot 109 Best Village,  West Coast Demerara, had the charge for the capital offence substituted after his alleged stabbing victim, Shonell Warrick, of Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown, died.
He had been previously charged with attempting to kill the woman and was  remanded,  until February 28.
