UNEMPLOYED Sewnarine Jagdat, 42, of Lot 3 Wellington Street, Georgetown, was sentenced to three months imprisonment, on Thursday, for unlawfully assaulting his common-law wife, Leewattie Gangshar. He pleaded guilty to the offence before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry inflicted the custodial penalty on him.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, said, on Thursday, January 20, Jagdat, who, usually abuses the mother of his child and is a habitual alcohol drinker, verbally and physically abused her.
She told him she had enough abuse and walked away but he pursued and hit her several times about the body, including her face, the prosecutor said.
