Driver fined after magistrate reports his carelessness

LLOYD Williams (no address given) was convicted of careless use of the roadway and fined $20,000 yesterday. Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before whom he pleaded guilty, gave him the alternative of two weeks imprisonment.
Williams admitted that, on January 26, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, he drove motor lorry GNN 913 without due care and attention to other persons using the public road.
Police Corporal Vanetta Pindar, prosecuting, said the defendant was proceeding South along Friendship Public Road without care and consideration for other road users.
The Prosecutor said the defendant’s carelessness was reported by Magistrate Leslie Sobers.
