Controversy surrounds DCB elections today …
… other faction going ahead with election at Wales
BISSOONDYAL Singh is steadfast in his opinion that his faction has legitimacy in the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) elections which will be held today.
Although the court has granted permission for both elections because a resolution has not been made, the current president is still confident that his side is playing it by the books. Singh has been in an ongoing battle with another faction of the DCB which consists of vice-president Anand Sanasie and secretary Rajendra Singh.
Both factions of the divided DCB are touting their election claims as legitimate.
The two sides currently differ in venues and voting numbers.
Singh said that elections will be held at the Lusignan Community Centre at 17:00 h and will have a voting sub-association breakdown of 16 for the East Coast Demerara Cricket Association, 11 for the West Demerara Cricket Association and 10 each for Georgetown and the East Bank Demerara Cricket Associations.
The Sanasie-Rajendra Singh faction has the count at 10 for Georgetown and 14 each for the other associations and has scheduled their elections for the Wales Community Development Centre from 14:00 h today.
Sanasie, at a press briefing yesterday, disclosed that he will not run for the presidency but may serve in another capacity.
The current head (Bissoondyal Singh) is open to the idea of retaining his position if voted in.
The two sides will return to court next Friday for another hearing. Ultimately, the court will decide on which election is legitimate.
