Police still testing samples in Sheema Mangar murder

THE Police have reported that samples taken from under the motor car suspected to have run over and killed Demerara Bank employee Sheema Mangar, are still being tested. The material, believed to be a part of the uniform she was wearing, had been taken from the vehicle for DNA testing overseas.
Initially, the Police were checking to see if pieces of the fabric found beneath a car matched the clothing Mangar wore when she was dragged along Camp She was on North Road, awaiting transport to go home when her ‘Blackberry’ cellular phone was snatched last September 10. The 21-year-old gave chase and, after the robber entered a waiting car, she flung herself in front of the vehicle, in an effort to stop him but was run over and dragged several feet, from North Road to Church Street, also in Georgetown, as it sped away.
Public-spirited citizens rushed her to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and she was, subsequently, transferred to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital where she died hours later.
As the investigations into the murder proceeded, a suspect was arrested but released on station bail and investigators are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
On September 15, Mangar’s Demerara Bank fellow employees staged a silent lamplight vigil in her memory and placed a cross with her name on it at the spot they believe she met her demise, at Camp and Church Streets.
