Essequibo Coast NDCs submit budgetary proposals

THE five Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) on the Essequibo Coast have budgeted to collect $57.4M in revenue during 2011.
But the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), will have to approve the proposed budgets before its final meeting for 2010.
Overseers, accompanied by their respective chairmen, presented the proposals last Wednesday, at a special meeting of the Local Government and Co-ops Sub-Committee of the RDC.
Mr. Pooran Persaud, who chairs that body, said he is pleased with the submissions but pointed out that arrears rates and taxes pose serious problems every year.
He said NDC officials must ensure, that, what is due in 2011 is collected promptly and the debt is not left to roll over to the next year. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
