ACP meeting on mining sector

GUYANA IS expected to take an active role in the forthcoming two-day technical meeting on developments in the mining sector of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. While Guyana held the chairmanship of the ACP, under Foreign Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett until recently, it sought to encourage efforts for the scheduled December 13-15 meeting.
The draft agenda for the meeting, as disclosed by the ACP Secretariat in Brussels, include an overview of the importance of the mining sector for member states, and the status of the mining sector in negotiations on economic partnership with the European Union (EU).
Other agenda issues include reinforcement, or the creation of a favourable environment for investors, and the exploration of new mineral resources in ACP countries.
