Guinness Greatest in de Streets …
HOPE Street’s Jewel Lloyd scored the fastest goal in this year’s Banks DIH Guinness Greatest in de Streets football tournament against Back Circle, when the action continued at the Burnham Basketball Court, Middle Street Monday night. The shrill sound of referee Wayne Griffith’s whistle must have been dying off from the ears of the hundreds of fans gathered at the venue, known more for basketball organised by the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), when MC and director of the tournament, Marlon Cole, was signalling Lloyd’s goal, scored from midway of the playing area, 45 seconds after play commenced.
From there onwards, Hope Street, competing out of Tiger Bay, were all over their opponents and thanks to Jamal Blackman’s brace scored in the 14th and 19th minutes, followed by Gerald Whittington’s 22nd minute strike walked away with a comfortable 4-0 victory.
In the opening match of the night, West Back Road made rings around Woolford Avenue en route to a 6-0 victory, with Sherwin Grimes (6th), Sherman Fraser (7th and 11th), Phillip Rowley (17th) and Stellon David, back-to-back strikes in the 22nd and 23rd minutes, taking their team home untroubled.
Albouystown ‘A’ continued their victory run so far when they defeated Kingston ‘A’ 3-2 in a very close encounter, thanks to Delon Small’s hat-trick of goals scored in the 3rd, 4th and 6th minutes, while Gavin Konseh (8th) and Devon Adams 17th found the back of the net for the losers.
Norton Street recorded the largest margin of victory to date, when they demoralised Plaisance by a humiliating 7-2 score line, thanks to Rajesh George’s brace.

Thanks to a Jamal Nicholas 7th-minute strike, Cultural Centre Tarmac were able to defeat Costello Housing Scheme 1-0, which was the same margin of victory for North East La Penitence, for whom Gerald Gittens who will be in action for Fruta Conquerors tonight in that team’s NAMILCO semifinal fixture against Santos, scored in the 17th minute.
