MINIBUS conductor Kevin Washington, 22, of Lot 41 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, has been charged with robbery under arms. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday the indictable charge against him said, on October 30, being armed with a knife, he robbed Khemraj Deonarine of a $50,000 gold chain.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail for the accused, who was remanded to prison until November 8.
The Prosecutor, who expressed fear that Washington may not attend his trial, said the prisoner approached the victim from behind, in the Stabroek Market area of the city, placed the blade at his neck and ran off with the jewel but was apprehended by public-spirited citizens.
