FOR the third successive year, Wolf Warriors walked away with the District of Columbia Metro Cricket Organisation (DCMCO) nationwide softball final, when they defeated Memorex XI by six wickets in the final at the Demerara Cricket Club ground yesterday. Memorex XI took first strike after winning the toss and scored 124-8 off the reduced 12 overs, with Andy Butram leading the way with 26 against the bowling of Davanand Persaud who took 4-23 including a hat trick.
When Wolf’s Warriors batted, man-of-the-match Azad Azeez scored an entertaining 43 which included four sixes and a four to lead his team to 125-4 from 11 overs and at the same time, walked away with the leading run-scorer.
For their success, Wolf Warriors received $150, 000 and a trophy, while Memorex XI took home $75, 000 and a trophy.
Azeez received $10, 000 and a trophy, while he was also chosen as the best batsman in the final which earned him a further $10, 000 and a trophy, while Persaud was adjudged the best bowler to which he collected $10, 000 and a trophy.
The losing semi-finalists Regal and Farm collected a trophy for their effort, while all the zone winners received a trophy each.
Representative of the sponsor Milton Pyle, at the presentation ceremony, congratulated Wolf’s Warrior for winning the competition for the third consecutive year, while he promised them his commitment to the tournament next year.
