Guyana beat Netherlands 3-2 to stay unbeaten in Digicel Cup

GUYANA’s senior footballers maintained their unbeaten run in Group ‘C’ of the Digicel Caribbean Cup preliminaries being played in Paramaraibo, Suriname. In last night’s encounter played at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium the Guyanese took a comfortable 2-0 half time lead against the Netherland Antilles with goals from Dwight Peters (15’) and Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams (43’).
Ten minutes into the second period Walter Moore made it 3-0, while the Antilleans pulled back two late goals including a questionable penalty.
It was the second defeat for the Netherlands Antilles who also lost 2-1 to host Suriname on the opening night of play, while Guyana secured another victory after their 1-0 victory against St Lucia last Wednesday. Suriname was down to play St Lucia in the other fixture last night.
The stage is now set for another big showdown of the oldest rivalry in Caribbean football – Suriname versus Guyana – tomorrow night.
