GFW, MOH to display Breast Cancer Awareness Fashion today

As part of their ongoing breast cancer awareness campaign, Guyana Fashion Weekend (GFW) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) will be displaying breast cancer themed fashion on the lawns of Guyana Stores today. Quoting one newspaper publisher who said “We were born naked and as such everything else we put on is fashion”, CEO of GFW Sonia Noel revealed in a statement last Thursday that the producers of Guyana Fashion Weekend share this sentiment and believe that fashion and clothing is an integral part of everyday living to all persons around the world.
It is with this idea that GFW and the MOH have come together to observe  Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a collection of pink clothing aimed at reminding women of the importance of having regular breast examinations.
Noel said she thinks it is important that males and females alike become sensitised to the disease which affect women all over the world.

The designers of GFW, said Noel, see this as a way to give back to the Guyanese community, as they understand that without their home base, their dreams and careers as designers would be null and void. She said that she is enjoying the collaboration with the Ministry to create the much needed awareness, pointing out that the seminars are very informative. “Although, finding a lump might be scary, early detection and diagnosis is best”, she warns.
Noel said the exhibit is part of a holistic view of taking care of your body as the partners of Guyana Fashion Weekend, PAHO and UNAIDS, will also be launching campaigns which encourage the love of your body and teach the importance of protecting yourself from HIV/AIDS.
Upcoming is a Breast Cancer Awareness walk that is also a collaboration of   GFW and the Ministry and scheduled for 23rd October. Interested persons can call 2263099
The exhibition of clothing is open to the public and will start at 10:00hrs and conclude   at 14:00hrs
