Attempted murder accused granted bail over Police objection

ACTING Chief Magistrate Priya-Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday overruled a Police objection and put taxi driver Alphie Garraway on a total of $300,000 bail.
The accused, 30, of Lot 71 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, is charged, indictably, with robbery under arms and attempted murder.

The allegations against him are that, on June 10, 2009, being armed with a gun, he robbed Christopher Mc Klein of $40,000 and wounded him with the intention of murdering him.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said Garraway shot the virtual complainant in the neck and took away his money.
In objecting to pre-trial freedom for the accused, the Prosecutor said the offences were committed since last year and he was only arrested recently.
Harvey also opposed the grant on the ground that it is likely the accused would not return for trial.
The cases will be called, again, on October 18.
