Moved by gruesome killing…

Region Three calls for reintroduction of hanging
THE Regional Democratic Council Region Three vociferously called for the reintroduction of hanging as it relates to serious crimes, after councillors expressed shock and disbelief at the recent heinous crime perpetrated against 16 year old Neesa Lalita Gopaul.
At the meeting, the councillors said that society has degenerated into a jungle where values of decency and human civilisation are no longer cherished.
The council also noted that notwithstanding the laws which have been enacted to deal with domestic violence, women continue to be at the receiving end. The council agreed to invite other stakeholders to a forum where it is hoped that a plan of action would be developed to deal with the issues of crime and domestic violence.
The council at the meeting had been deliberating on its Crime Prevention Committee’s report which noted that there had been an upsurge of serious crimes in various parts of Guyana.
