An elderly woman died tragically on Tuesday night after she fell from her verandah at 46 Norton Street, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara. Hyacinth George, 74, died around 22:00hrs while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The deceased, who shared her two-storey house with her children and grandchildren, was described as a most pleasant person by her son, Michael George.
George, who lived downstairs with his family told the Chronicle that he has no idea how his mother fell from the upstairs verandah. He said around 18:30hrs, his mother was sitting on the verandah, as she would normally do, and then he heard a loud noise.
The man said when he rushed out to see what it was he realized that his mother had fallen from the verandah. He said when he picked her up she was bleeding from her mouth and her jaw appeared to be broken.
According to George, the deceased was diabetic and was on medication. He said his mother had no other complication, except that she was forgetful.
George said his mother’s death came as a surprise for the entire family, and they are trying to cope with the reality that she is no longer with them.
His sisters, who live upstairs with the deceased, were too distraught to speak with this newspaper yesterday.
