$35,000 bail for minibus conductor on larceny charge

JOSE Hopkinson, accused of larceny from the person, yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and was released on bail. Hopkinson, of Guyhoc Park, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge that said that, on October 3 last, he stole from Daniella Boston one gold band valued $20,000.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, told the court that the victim was in a route 45 mini-bus waiting for other passengers and was sitting next to a window.
He said the defendant, a minibus conductor, then snatched the band and made good his escape on foot.
The defendant told the court that he wished to plead guilty to finish the matter, but maintained that someone else did the snatching.
Hopkinson was released on $35,000 bail and the case will be called again on October 26.
